CPABC January 2024 Newsletter



Hello!

CPABC has these three upcoming events for January 2024!

 

 

Registration Deadline: January 25, 2024 at 12:00pm (noon) PST

First Round: January 26 - 28, 2024 (video submission)

Final Round: March 16, 2024 (in-person presentation)


Description: Demonstrate and develop your business acumen by challenging yourself and your teammates to create strategic, innovative solutions to real issues facing real businesses! The CPABC Annual Business Case Competition is a business strategy case competition with two competition rounds. The Top 8 teams from the First Round will be invited to compete in the Final Round at the University of British Columbia's Vancouver campus. The Final Round includes an evening networking and celebration reception joined by CPA members across BC.

 

The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of $2,400. The second placed team will receive a cash prize of $1,200 and the third placed team will receive a cash prize of $600.

Date: January 18, 2024

Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Format: Online

Description: Learn about the practical experience requirements (PER) for the CPA designation as a post-secondary student. All aspects of the PER will be covered in detail, including the PER competencies, gaining paid experience while in post-secondary, tracking experience, and career exploration to prepare for employment after graduation. The presentation will conclude with an open question and answer period with CPABC.

Time: 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Format: Online

Description: Learn how to transfer your international education and work experience (accounting/finance) towards the CPA program and confer the CPA designation. This session will walk you through the admission requirements, explain the structure of the CPA program, and how to connect with employers in the accounting sector. Special guest speakers from BC settlement agencies ISSofBC, MOSAIC, and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. will present on their resources for newcomers (recent PR status) in BC for financial assistance, free mentorship, and career counselling services to help you attain your goals in becoming a CPA.

Format: Online

Description: Are you a post-secondary student interested in becoming a CPA after you graduate? This session will cover the CPA program in detail and include an open Q&A with CPABC’s Senior Student Recruitment Officer. This session will be tailored to post-secondary students interested in becoming a CPA, and is open to students from any university or college program.

Format: Online

Description: Explore the ethical foundation of accounting in our webinar series, "The Value of CPA." Join us as three seasoned CPA panelists, experts in forensic accounting, share insights on the moral principles shaping the accounting profession. Gain a deeper understanding of the crucial role values play in maintaining integrity and trust within the field.
